Appendix C Sybase Central Plug-in for Solaris

Limitations

This section describes the differences between managing Dynamo on Windows and Solaris. These features are not supported on Solaris:

View and Browse script and template output The Solaris plug-in does not support the View Output option for script and template output. The Solaris plug-in also does not support the Browse feature that sends script and template output to your browser. See "Creating a template" and "Creating a script" for more information.

Database site generation You must generate database sites from Windows, then copy them to the Solaris workstation through the pdynamo.ini file.

ODBC administrator You cannot create and administer ODBC connections through the Solaris plug-in. See the PowerDynamo chapter of the EAServer Installation Guide for information about ODBC administration.

Script editor The following script editor features are not supported on Solaris:

Add template SQL query generation is not supported on Solaris.

Drag and drop

These features have fewer options available on Solaris than Windows:

Mapping information The Solaris plug-in reads Dynamo mapping information and settings from the pdynamo.ini file. See "How mapping information is stored" for more information.

Import You must import all files; there are no file replacement options, such as "Import newer files only."

Wizards All wizards are replaced by single-panel dialogs on Solaris.

Connection profiles Before the Solaris plug-in can manage a site:

  1. A Dynamo Web server must be running, and
  2. You must define a mapping for the site. See "Setting Dynamo mappings".

Once these steps are completed, establish a Solaris profile and a PowerDynamo connection profile:

  1. To establish a Solaris profile, select Tools | Connect or Tools | Connection_profiles and supply the name of a site mapping and Web server.
  2. To establish a connection profile for PowerDynamo, select Tools | PowerDynamo | Dynamo Profiles. Provide the Connection Profile information. See "Creating a connection profile" for more information.
