Chapter 14 Using the Systems Management Web Console


Overview

Through the systems management Web console, you can perform administrative tasks, including starting, stopping, retrieving error logs, and executing methods (functions and actions) for multiple EAServer installations on multiple machines and platforms. In addition, if you have installed Sybase Enterprise Portal, you can manage portal components.

The systems management architecture uses a common information model (CIM) database, called the CIM Repository. The CIM Repository maintains a record of what managed components are installed and how to connect to them for monitoring and management. The CIM Repository is populated when you install EAServer or Enterprise Portal components. The Web console reads and displays CIM information from the CIM Repository, such as installation location, error log location, statistical information, and so on.

To start, stop, or restart servers and services, the Web console interacts with agent managers running in each installation. The agent manager is itself a lightweight server that accepts network requests from the Web console.
